DDGM Alfred in June: Celebrating Freedom from Oppression and Ignorance

The Philippine Revolution of 1896-1898 is said to be Masonically inspired and in celebration of the country's 127th year of independence from Spain's colonial rule, DDGM Alfred led the subordinate Lodges of MD Nueva Ecija East and Aurora and Appendant Bodies in commemorating with the Municipal Government of Talavera the heroism of brother Masons who fought for the country's freedom.

Echoing Grand Master Raul Canon Jr.'s Independence Day message, DDGM Alfred in his keynote address spoke of each Mason's moral duty in nation-building, that placing country above personal interest is an act of heroism itself, and urged all Masons to honor the memory of their forebears by "becoming living stones for nation-building" and to transform Masonic Lodges into workshops to retool Masonic values towards ensuring that brotherly love, relief, and truth will prevail.

DDGM Alfred in his continuing official visits to his subordinate Lodges further emphasized this to WM Jomari Valino and the brethren of Model Masonic Lodge No. 373, WM Lenard Canasa and the brethren of Ang Bagong Bayan Masonic Lodge No. 463, and WM Allen Paul Domingo of Talavera Masonic Lodge No. 273 whom he with Grand Master Raul Canon Jr. also joined in celebrating their 39th year anniversary as a Masonic Lodge.

Since its earliest years, Freemasonry has been associated with education and this has been inscribed in the Regius Manuscript of 1390, the oldest surviving extant Masonic document, which indicated that "the Master Mason should teach each Apprentice completely so that he is competent wherever he goes and, by implication, that his education be well rounded with the seven sciences".

And June being the traditional opening of the school year and in line with Grand Master Raul Canon Jr.'s guidance for his District Representatives to lead from behind, DDGM Alfred allocated a P10,000 financial support for each of his subordiate lodges that enabled them to conduct their "Brigada Eskuwela" projects in their respective adopted scools in Rizal, Talavera, Baler, Palayan City, Sto. Domingo, Casiguran, Bongabon, and Llanera.

DDGM Alfred also convened a District Council meeting where the following measures were adopted by all subordinate Lodges of MD Nueva Ecja East and Aurora:
  1. Participation in the Grand Lodge of the Philippines' flag rasing ceremony on July 7 that will be hosted by all of Nueva Ecija and Aurora's 4 Masonic Districts;
  2. Compulsary particiption in the Quad-District Convention on August 2 that will be held in Baler, Aurora;
  3. Attendance in the Central Luzon Multi-District Convention that will be held on November 29 in Tarlac City;
  4. Provision of support from MD Nueva Ecija East and Aurora to all its subordinate Lodge's "Brigada Eskuwela" projects;
  5. Increase in the District's Death Aid from P2,000 to P5,000 effective immediately; and
  6. Announcement of the District's intention not to host a separate District Christmas Party but will instead support and join each of its subordinate Lodge's celebrations.

DDGM Alfred also attended the 50th founding anniversary celebration of Pantabangan-Bonari Masonic Lodge No. 203 as another manifestation of the District's solidarity with its subordinate Lodges.
